A GUIDE TO THE HIDDEN CANYON BEJI GUWANG

A Guide to Hidden Canyon Beji Guwang in Gianyar

After spending one month in Bali, I was tired of all these temples and waterfalls. So my friend and I were looking for something more adventurous and found it by a trip to the Hidden Canyon Beji Guwang in Gianyar.

There are three Canyons you can reach by going up the river. The whole Hidden Canyon experience will take circa 2 to 3 hours. I recommend this half-day trip to adventurous explorer, couples, groups and NOT for Kids.

Before you go

Make sure you check the weather. The Canyon is closed when it’s too rainy or there is too much water in the river. Make sure to bring your swimsuit, you will be in the water for half a day. Protect yourself with anti-mosquito spray, these little bastards are everywhere. Bring your flip flops.

How to get there

We were staying in Ubud and went there by Motorbike which was a circa 30 to 40-minute ride. The address is: Jalan Sahadewa, Banjar Wangbung, Guwang, Sukawati, Guwang, Sukawati, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80582. You can park your car or Motorbike at the huge parking slot by the entrance.

Book your Guide

The Hidden Canyon Beji Guwang are only reachable with a guide. You basically make your way up the river where you need someone with experience to help you find the best way through the water. I went there in rainy season and some spots were really deep so the guide had to support me by holding hands. And if you ask me, it’s very dangerous without a guide.

You can book your Guide at the Entrance to the Hidden Canyon. Included is also a bottle of water, a towel, shower after the adventure and lockers.

Let’s Start

The guide will take you down some stairs and a little path goes down to the river. If you are not a barefoot person, this is the part where you are thankful for bringing your flip-flops. You can later give them to your guide and he will carry them in his drybag for you.

Up the river

There are three Canyons to see. The first one is already there after 30 to 45 minutes. See that one as a little Amuse bouche, because after reaching the first hidden canyon you can still decide to go out of the water and go back, there is a stair that leads you back to the entrance. If you are still thirsty for more, please go for it! The way leads you over rocks, through water and cliffs to climb.

The Grande Finale

Your trip ends by the third Canyon and a swing. After your exciting trip, a path through stunning rice fields, papaya plantages, and a beautiful surrounding will make your trip perfect and brings you back to the entrance. There are towels and a refreshing shower waiting for you.

My thoughts

I really enjoyed this trip. We were the only tourists on the day we went to the hidden Canyon and we had more than fun. I hit my knee several times but I guess this is just part of the adventure. I would definitely do it again. And also: I’m so sorry for not writing something about the price. I don’t remember what we paid but it was not a lot for sure.
